Aimeco Oy, Finland

Säpälex is designed and made in Finland by Aimeco Oy, a machine manufacturer based in Hankasalmi.

Säpälex is designed, tested and built in Aimeco's own workshop. Spare parts and support come from the same address.

Aimeco Oy is an innovative partner for machine and equipment builders. Our customers include industrial production plants, maintenance companies and machine and equipment manufacturers. We work with 3D design software and have our own production facilities. Our services cover assembly solutions, material handling systems and value-added solutions.

We develop and deliver solutions for managing side streams from industrial manufacturing processes, for example shredding material into raw material or into a form that is easier to handle. Ask us whether Säpälex suits your material.

How Säpälex came about

Heating energy out of old buildings

The idea behind Säpälex was to improve the local circular economy on farms and in small businesses.

Simo Aitto-oja was thinking about how old buildings could be turned into heating energy. Leaving that timber unused would have been a waste of natural resources. The high price and production cost of forest chips made him look ever more closely at how much energy sits in old buildings and packaging materials, and how it could be put to work heating the premises.

The first solution was a stationary electric shredder, which served for about five years. Because it was fixed in place, getting the chips into a silo or onto a pallet required conveyor structures. Electricity was also a problem: small as the shredder was, it needed a large electric motor, and the electrical connection became the limiting factor.

Design of a tractor-driven shredder began in 2023 and the prototype was completed in 2026. The machine includes innovations that simplify its construction considerably compared with electric equivalents. The tractor's high-torque diesel engine, PTO drive, hydraulics and 12 V electrical system make the shredder a competitive alternative.

Säpälex has been featured in the Finnish publications Maaseudun Tulevaisuus (for subscribers) and Koneviesti.
