Säpälex TR 130

Tractor-driven wood waste shredder

Säpälex shreds dry waste wood into fine chips that suit even a small stoker burner. It is a shredder, not a chipper: a low-speed machine that tolerates nails and impurities.

What the machine takes

Construction wood waste, wood-based boards and cardboard, packaging materials, pallets and old buildings. Dry material can be shredded as it is.

The shredder tolerates nails and other impurities, so demolition wood does not need cleaning before feeding. A shear bolt acts as the fuse and protects the machine and the tractor's driveline.

What the chips are good for

Fine chips suit stoker burners and wood chip heating. They also work as a garden growing medium, for weed control and as animal bedding.

A magnet removes nails and metal parts from the conveyor automatically, so the chips come out clean.

Is your tractor enough?

80hp
Tractor power required

An ordinary farm tractor is enough. The mobile shredder needs no electrical connection and no separate power source, because the tractor alone runs it. Hookup with a PTO shaft, hydraulics and a light socket; matched to your tractor's hydraulics by adjusting the flow valve.

Why tractor-driven

The electrical connection was the limit

The first Säpälex was a stationary electric shredder, which served for about five years. Because it was fixed in place, getting the chips into a silo or onto a pallet required conveyor structures. On top of that, small as the shredder was, it needed a large electric motor, and the electrical connection became the limiting factor.

Design of the tractor-driven version began in 2023 and the prototype was completed in 2026. The tractor's high-torque diesel engine, PTO drive, hydraulics and 12 V electrical system replace the large electric motor. At the same time the construction became considerably simpler than in electric equivalents.

FAQ

Questions about Säpälex

What is the difference between a shredder and a wood chipper?

A wood chipper cuts wood with fast-spinning blades and is made for fresh, clean wood. Säpälex is a low-speed shredder that tolerates nails and other impurities. That makes it suitable for dry waste wood such as pallets and demolition wood, which you would not want to feed into a chipper.

Is my tractor powerful enough?

The Säpälex TR 130 needs about 80 hp, so an ordinary farm tractor is enough. It is connected with a PTO shaft (540 rpm max), two double-acting hydraulic valves and a light socket. No electrical connection is needed.

Can it take demolition wood with nails?

Yes. Demolition wood does not need to be cleaned before feeding. A plate magnet on the discharge conveyor separates nails and other metal parts from the chips, and a shear bolt protects the machine and the tractor’s driveline from overload.

What materials can Säpälex shred?

Dry waste wood: construction wood waste, wood-based boards, cardboard, packaging materials, pallets and old buildings. A whole 80 × 120 cm pallet goes in at once.

What are the chips good for?

The chip size is at most 30 × 30 mm, so the chips suit stoker burners and wood chip heating. They also work as a garden growing medium, for weed control and as animal bedding.

How much does Säpälex shred per hour?

Capacity is 5–10 m³ per hour depending on the material.

What is the delivery time and how is servicing handled?

The delivery time is agreed when you order. It depends on the order book and on whether machines are already built. Servicing is handled by an authorised dealer. The rotor’s 42 carbide-tipped blades are reversible and are replaced when needed.
